Topic of the Week
Compassion
Empathy with an awareness of the interdependence of all things,
and the strong desire to alleviate suffering.
It's Friday so you know what that means. Time for our weekly installment of fragmenty goodness.Brought to us by Mrs. 4444 over at Half-Past Kissin' Time.

I have several mom's and kids heading over to my place for lunch today. We have been doing this every Friday since our kids were small babies but this is going to be the last event before pre school starts for most of us. We will still be gathering but the lunches will be later and our time together going forward will not be quite so leisurely. It is bittersweet to realize our kids will be branching out and our little group won't be the primary social interaction in their lives anymore. OK it is only preschool and I know it only gets worse with each milestone... but my baby is growing up!!!

I came back from BloggyBootCamp all fired up and a bit of the wind immediately got sucked from my sails. You see a good part of the conference was focused on social media and twitter specifically. I hadn't been a big twitterer before but I was sold on the value it could provide for fun and for developing an online presence. So I jumped in only to find out that my account had been banned from group searches. Group searches are the topics you look for by placing the hash tag # before the specific words. As you might imagine #Bloggybootcamp was of particular interest following the event but none of my tweets were showing up in the stream because I was banned.
Why was I banned? Well in my novice use of Twitter I sent out too many similar tweets with similar links associated with them. This is frowned on and "for the good of the experience for all users" EverydayKathy was only permitted to tweet to her followers and not to the larger twitter universe. After a good three days of feeling completely ignored -- imagine sending messages that NO ONE replies to for days at a time I finally figured out that something was amiss and contacted Twitter support.
As of yesterday my full privileges have been restored. Previously I shared things I thought might be of relevant interest but now I realize I should have kept to what I've eaten for breakfast. Turns out Bacon is a most acceptable tweet!

I jest regarding that Bacon comment above, but it turns out blog posts with the word Bacon in them do well in the world of SEO (Search Engine Optimization) so I was inspired to check it out. I bought the domain EverydayBacon.com and have to date written 2 posts over there. I'm also checking out wordpress in the process so the entire thing is a total experiment but the funny thing is three people stopped by the very first day, BEFORE I even told anyone about it! I have days on my nearly Year Old blog, Everyday Bliss, when NO ONE stops by but a random lark with Bacon in the title nets immediate traffic. This is so wrong on so many levels... which is why I'm fascinated about figuring out how to exploit it! More Bacon tales to come...

A few Tidbits from my week with The Girl
A little Recycling |
"What has feathers, feet and a beak?" What Sweets? "A bird! Laugh mommy, that was a joke!"
(Guess we have some work to do before we launch that stand up career!)
"Mommy go in the hall." Why? "I don't want you to see what I am doing."
"Mommy I have a story." Please tell me. "And they all lived happily ever after... that is the beginning!..." Grown ups sure are silly making that the END!!!

My daughter and I need a TB test for school participation so yesterday we went to the clinic to get the tests only to be told, "We never do TB tests on Thursdays." Perhaps that should be mentioned on the website and/or when you inquire about the hours they are open!!! So now we need to go again this morning, before everyone comes for lunch... yikes I guess I had better sign off now!
'Till next time!
Next Post: We'll see!

This week is all about Compassion. Next week 's topic is Trust.
The world really does need more bacon ;)!
ReplyDeleteI wish there were a bloggyboot camp closer to me... and I also wish that I had more time to be more involved in the social media. I was loving twitter and just getting into it when I went back to work fulltime. Now I can barely manage my old school blog!
Here from Friday fragments...enjoy the rest of your weekend!
I'm feeling compelled to go sprinkle random bacon keywords in my blog posts with the lowest traffic.
ReplyDeleteThat's so dumb that the clinic didn't mention that about the testing hours. Especially as it's a pretty consistent rule I'd imagine!
